Roosterkoek: Traditional food of our ancestors with a modern twist
Directly translated, "roosterkoek" is "barbecued-grid cake". "Hoek" is a corner. Therefore "Roosterkoekhoek" can be considered a corner where barbecued grid cakes are made !
This tradional southern cape bread, cooked over open coals, has been part of the history of our region for centuries.
The Roosterkoekhoek offers clients an array of fillings, including cheese, jam, patty, ribs, chicken, russian, cheese griller, boerewors. Meat fillings are all freshly prepared and served with tomato relish.
All products are grilled on wood coals from an alien species - "Acacia Cyclops", locally known as "rooitpitjie" or "baaibos". All our wood purchases are from, and in support, of local entrepreneurs who are not only trying to provide for their families, but eradicating alien plants in the process.
Roosterkoeke are available from 09h00 - Monday to Saturday - including some public holidays and Sundays
